December 5th is the Day...

we're moving to Houston!
First of all, I just want to clarify something on the title of my post, "Property Virgins No More"... Property Virgins is the name of a real estate show on HGTV that I LOVE and I thought everyone had heard of it. Apparently not, because my mom hadn't, and she thought the title was really weird. So I just wanted to explain in case anyone else was thinking it was weird! :)

Even though we close on the house on the 20th, Scott can't start working in his new office until the 30th (so we can't move before then) and I can't train my replacement at work the week of Thanksgiving. The plan is to have me train my replacement the week of the 30th, move at the end of the week, and then we'll be official Houstonians! :)

I'm excited that TWG is having movers come do all the work for us- it will make the moving much less stressful. The crew is coming that Saturday morning, boxing everything, loading the truck, driving to Houston, and unloading that evening.
Here are some pictures I took of the house while we were there last weekend.

We can't wait to trim back the plants- you can hardly see the house!

The little porch I love

The kitchen by far needs the most work. We want to paint the walls and refinish the cabinets right away. Eventually we're going to put a cabinet above the sink, and get new counters and appliances. And the back splash has got to go too :)... at least it's neutral colors though.

This will be fun to decorate for Christmas

The entry (needs new paint too)

This might seem silly, but I'm really excited to have an actual entry. In our apartment (and every other apartment I've ever living in), you walk right into the family room with a little square of tile around the door. I guess I'm just looking forward to having a "real" house and a new space to decorate! :)

  2. I know what you mean about having an entry, our first 2 houses didn't have one and it felt luxurious when we finally got one. The colors are all pretty neutral (except the kitchen). That is nice, because you can decorate to compensate and distract, until you get the actual cabinets and colors you want. Love the fireplace and tile floors and the exterior is a really cute traditional look. I am really happy for you both!

ps. I knew what you meant by your post title. I haven't seen the show, but I had seen it on the guide while scanning for something to watch. Titling a post is important business...and I thought it was clever ;)

  3. I am jealous when I see you guys are moving into a house! Out here when we look for homes we can afford an old crappy apt, oh California :( I have never been to Houston so maybe someday we will come out and see you guys and your cute house. And you are always welcome to come to CA!

  4. ha, I thought the title was weird too :-) But I did eventually see that program and it made your blog title make more sense.

And I am so excited for you guys! How fun to have your first home!!! Please keep posting as you make improvements!

  5. Having an entry is SO exciting. It'll be so nice to make little upgrades as you go too. When you're renting, you want to fix the place up- but what's the point? You'll make the house so beautiful. :)

  8. I thought property virgins was clever and I wasn't familiar with the show. (I see my mom wrote the same thing :) I'm so excited for you and that cute house, you're going to have so much fun with it! You're so lucky that they're doing all the moving for you.

  9. I love Property Virgins too! I also thought the name of the show was odd the first time I saw it.

Good luck with the move! How exciting! A home for Christmas!
