Scott and I went to the Baskin Robbins located at Fry Rd. and Grand Parkway last Saturday (the 3rd) to buy an ice cream cake for his birthday. He picked out one that was $34 (which I already thought was too much- I mean it wasn't from Cold Stone or something!). After the girl rang us up and had already charged our debit card, the receipt said we had just paid $39. The receipt said that the cake was $34, and then there was another $5 charge. The girl told us that because the cake had decorations on it, it was another $5... that would have been nice to know before we paid. Shouldn't a $34 cake COME with a little chocolate drizzled on the top?!? Being frustrated that we weren't told ahead of time that "decorations" cost another $5 and not wanting to pay $40 for a small cake, Scott asked if we could get a refund. The girl went in the back and came back saying the manager was on the phone, and that as soon as he was off he could come do the return.
A few minutes later another girl came out from the back saying the manager had just left (knowing we were there waiting) to run some errands and would be back in a half hour or so. We were just thinking- are you serious? So we waited. About 40 minutes later they told us the manager was now at HEB buying milk and bananas. There were a million bananas sitting on their counter. A little over an HOUR after we purchased the cake the manager came back to give us our refund. And he was rude. It wasn't until Scott politely asked the manager to notice the over an hour difference in time between the purchase and return and that a formal complaint would be filed with Baskin Robbins that the manager made a snide comment about how it wasn't like he left to go to the movies or something. For those of you who don't know Scott- it takes a lot to get him frustrated and a ton to make him mad- and he was mad. Wouldn't you be? I was proud of him for staying calm and being really polite to all of the people who worked there even though the experience was nothing short of ridiculous!
Can you believe it? We won't be going to Baskin Robbins EVER again! :)

HOW TERRIBLE!!! Some individuals have not learned the meaning of customer service. And you were most certainly not out of your right for a refund!
ReplyDeleteI will never go there either!
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed you guys waited all that time...what a weirdo that manager was! On Baskin Robbin's behalf I do want to say that they were very nice to us at the Highland Knolls/Mason location though :-). I'm just glad you ended up finding a WAY better deal elsewhere anyway!
ReplyDeleteOh no!!! That's horrible! I LOVE Baskin-Robbins but ONLY when they have World Class Chocolate. If not, it's Ben & Jerry's for me! If only there were one close . . . (LINSEY)
ReplyDeleteI can't believe that story! It sounds like the manager was just trying to stall enough to make you guys get sick of waiting and get over it. I'm so glad you stuck it out and Scott stood up to the guy.
ReplyDeleteLIKE EEEWWW! I wouldn't have had all that patience! Yeah a formal complaint must be made! Usually if a price is displayed, they are obligated to sell you the item at that price unless otherwise specified. Since it wasn't specified anywhere about the extra 5$, they are completely WRONG! GRRRR!
ReplyDeleteThat is absolutely ridiculous! I'm proud of you two for standing your ground. I mean really, what kind of customer service is that? I hope you guys still file a formal complaint.
ReplyDeleteThat is awful! I would have been so mad.
